Collected from drivers with one million or more miles, here are some tips to keep drivers safe on their everyday treks.
1. Keep an eye out for ice
When ice starts to form on antennas or side mirrors, there is a good chance black ice is present on the road. That is not a battle any driver wants to fight.
2. Read a newspaper
Pick a publication to peruse every single day. A sharp mind makes for sharp driving skills. Plus, staying up on current events can help anyone feel more connected to the outside world when on those long hauls.
3. Treat those on the road like relatives
Some truckers say they imagine those in vehicles around them are family. Protecting those around you is a great safety practice and might even land you in the honorable list of Highway Angels.
4. Drive like nobody is watching
Pretending like other drivers are not aware of a large, 18-wheel, 40 ton truck might seem silly. However, always being prepared for others to merge in or cut off is a great way to be one step ahead of those dangerous situations.
