Iconic Peterbilt part of the Talladega Garage Experience
TALLADEGA, Ala. – When NASCAR fans at Talladega Superspeedway see Johnny Ray’s iconic Peterbilt rumbling down the track with the giant American flag on the back they know 500 miles of white-knuckle racing is about to begin.
Once the race starts, the truck is out of sight and out of mind, but from today forward race fans stepping into the track’s new Big Bill’s Social Club will always have a view of the track’s favorite truck.
Big Bill’s is the 35,000-square-foot entertainment center that’s the centerpiece of the Talladega Garage Experience, an open-air gathering place between the two Monster Energy Cup Series garages, part of the track’s $50 million infield transformation project that will be unveiled during the Oct. 11-13 race weekend.
In addition to unparalleled access to viewing the race teams and their work stations, the entertainment area features a 75-foot long bar at the back of the building, where reasonably priced food and refreshments will be served up throughout the race.
The facility is named in honor of Bill France Sr., the founder of NASCAR and Talladega Superspeedway’s builder.
As for the Peterbilt, a rendition of the front of Ray’s cab hangs above the entrance wall and serves as a backdrop for digital photos that places fans in the drivers’ seat. Renditions of its exhaust pipes frame the 41-foot diagonal video screen that sits above the bar and its air horn will sound at the start of each hourly “Activation Show.”
